The Tourist Information Centre
would like to welcome you to its village.
Salles, situated in the the
heart of the Parc naturel régional des Landes de Gascogne, is
the largest village in the District of
Belin. It covers the western part extending over a vast
undulating plain crossed by the river
Leyre that winds its way through a lush forest of alders and
oaks.
We are ideally situated and
close to:
• Bordeaux, a listed UNESCO
World Heritage Site, also renowned for its world famous
vineyards
• The Atlantic Ocean, the Dune
du Pyla and its white sandy beaches
• The lakes and their calm and
shallow waters
• The green and sunny
mountains
Without forgetting the wide
range of events that are being held throughout the year.
We hope you will find this
guide useful and remain at your disposal. We look forward to
welcoming
you and wish you a very pleasant stay.
The village of Salles also situated in the heart of the Parc
National des Landes de Gascogne is fortunate to have the river
l’Eyre going through its centre.
A lot of activities such as canoeing, kayaking, walking,
cycling, horse-riding, plenty of events and many more are
available.
We look forward to welcoming you very soon in our area.
Salles is found at the junction of the North-South (A63 motorway
/ main road N10) and East-West (district road 108 towards the
Lakes and the Land coastal axis and RD 3 towards the oceanic
beaches and the Arcachon Bay).
Salles that witnesses some fine south Gironde architecture,
regroups a town center and at the outskirts boroughs or
"quartiers" of different size. It counts nearly 5 000
inhabitants and spreads over a 13 000 area.
The main boroughs are :
Lavignolle 9 km north-westbound,
Le Caplanne 3 km westbound,
Bilos and Le Lanot respectively 2 and 4 km sounthbound.
One loses track of the Commune history in the midst of time.
Some recent archeological excavations witnesses of a human being
activity dating back to the prehistorical times on the banks of
the river L'Eyre, also named the "little Amazon".
When Salles was called Salomagos, it was the river L'Eyre that
proved a powerful and constant mean of development and
transport. It has nowadays turned into an inescapable
destination for canoe lovers and environment friendly tourists
alike, all of them very fond of preserved nature and wilderness.
Salles is equally reputable for is Thursday morning market and
welcomes many a tourists either its differents lodgings such as
camping sites, B&B's, hotels, holiday resort or at its shops.
Salles is definitely a youth orientated, active and sport loving
town, that shows up through its inhabitants' vitality and
Societies' dynamism.
Salles invites you to visit for a short stay and... would not
mind seeing you settling down here.
